White-Day (Part 1)

 "Today's going to be a great day, Claire!" Elli hugged me tightly, and twirled away, grinning non-stop. I chuckled and agreed with her. It was a great day. The first really warm day of spring, nice, sunny, beautiful...! "I can't wait to see Trent today!" She sighed dreamily and plopped on the grassy ground.

 "I know you can't," I laughed, and sat close to the Goddess Pond's edge. The water shimmered brilliantly, reflecting the sky's bright and beautiful blue.

 "I JUST CAN'T WAIT!" she squealed.

 I sighed and dipped my finger in the water. Cool and refreshing," Do you want to go to the Clinic right now? We can..."

 "No, no, no, I can wait!"

 "Are you su-"

 "Positive! It increases the suspense!" She breathed deeply," So, how about you? Are you anxious for Gray's gift?"

 My face heated and I dropped my gaze to the grass," ..No. We're just friends."

 "Oh, please," she rolled her eyes.

 "No, really," I replied sternly," We've only known each other for a few weeks! It's ridiculous to even..imply that there's some sort of feelings between us!" I flicked a pebble into the pond agitatedly and puffed my bangs out of my eyes with a loud breath.

 She stared blankly and frowned," What happened.."

 "Nothing," I shook my head and erased the emotion from my face.

 "Come on," she prodded, inching closer.

 "Nothing!" I frowned and shrugged my shoulders.

 "Don't make me do this.." She smiled deviously," Teeeeellll mmeee~!"

 "Elli nothing is- AHH STOP, STOP!" I yelled, as she dangled me over the pond by my overalls. "I can't believe you pushed me!"

 "Tell me, or you're going in!" She laughed.

 "Okay, okay," I yelled again. She pulled me back safely and sat back down smugly.

 "Okay, now spill it."

 I looked pointedly at her," Mary and Gray are..dating.." I mumbled.

 "Ohh.." She sat still a moment," Well, like you said.. You didn't know each other very much, so at least it doesn't hurt, right? I mean he is pretty cute, and strong, and nice, well to you, not me. Then again he wasn't-"

 "I get the point.." I smiled.

 "There's other cute guys around. If you want one. You don't need one. There's Rick and Cliff and Kai... not Trent. But, there's Won and-"

 "That's okay Elli," I chuckled. She sure is in a talkative mood today...

 She smiled," I'm just saying, Gray isn't that great. Don't worry about it, 'kay? But, if you do want him in, say a year or so, we could get Mary to-"

 "You really need to relax," I sighed and rubbed my forehead," you talk so much when you're nervous.."

 "Hehe, I know.." We sat quietly, but for only a few seconds," I heard something interesting about Karen yesterday!"

 "There you two are," a familiar deep, silky voice chuckled.

 "DOCTOR!" Elli crooned and stood briskly, mouth agape.

 "Hello, Dr. Trent," I stood also and smiled.

 "I've been looking for quite some time, why are you here?" Elli glanced at me and winked. "No matter, Elli I need you at the Clinic right now. Barley has fallen ill and I need your help. I left you a set of instructions on your desk."

 "Of course Doctor," she smirked," Sick....Riighht.." And she sprinted down the path the next second.

 Trent looked oddly after her, black brows raised,"I think you made her the happiest girl in town, Doctor." I laughed.

 He scrunched his expression," Ah.. Okay? ..Well then, Claire, I also wanted a word with you." He dipped his head and met my eyes with his dark gray ones. I'd never noticed before, but he was a tall man; his pure white lab-coat hung to his knees and contrasted his dark features.

 I shifted uncomfortably," Uhm, yes?"

 "I'm sure you know what today is, right?"

 "Tuesday?" I grinned," Yeah, I know about it.."

 He sighed and smiled a little," Well, I got something for you."

 I think my heart actually stopped. I am going to die.

 I am going to get killed.

 "Oh.." The word slipped between my lips.

 He frowned," It's not like it means much. It is only a small gift."

 "Oh.. really.." I glanced up at him, feeling my stomach twist and spin.

 "I think you are a pretty girl. We may only be acquaintances, but I would like to become friends, and maybe more someday?" He held out a small, purple box, wrapped and tied neatly.

 "What about Elli?'' I blurted.

 "...What do you mean?"

 "Are you serious?!" I breathed, shocked. "She practically worships you!"

 "Elli is only my nurse. I have no feelings toward her." He shrugged nonchalantly.

 He stepped closer and pressed the gift into my hands, with a slight smile.

 I stood still and thought.

 What a surprise for me..and for Elli..
