All the Little Things
Chapter Seven
Gossip, Gossip
"Claire!" Elli giggled with glee,"Why didn't you tell me?!"
I tilted my head,"Tell you what? Did something happen when I was gone?"
She frowned and put her hands on her hips,"You can tell me Claire! I promise to keep it secret."
"Tell you WHAT??" I said in frustration,"I have no idea what you're talking about!" Exasperated, I dropped in the comfy "waiting" chair.
Elli frantically waved her arms and the air and quickly whispered..loudly,"About you and Gray!!!"
That just confused me more,"What about us? We went to the Valley yesterday...? That's all.."
"Lumina told Popuri that she saw you and Gray asleep on each other at the Pond and Celia told us about dinner at her house?? Why didn't you tell me?!"
"I hadn't had time to yet!" I exclaimed.
"So it's true?!"
"Yeah."
"Eeeeeekkk!!" she squealed,"Claire! I can't believe you already have a boyfriend!"
I paused. "Wait..I don't.. We're just friends. Just friends."
Her wide grin drooped and she whimpered,"B-b-but...AAAWWW..That's sad.." She slumped.
Dr. Trent stepped in quietly, a slight frown on his face,"Ladies, would you mind keeping it down a little. I'm trying to study..." He glanced at the two of us disdainfully and returned to his studies.
"OF COURSE DOCTOR!" Elli waved. I could practically see hearts in her eyes.
I heard Trent sigh in his room and the shuffle of papers. "How are you and..." I motioned towards the office, and walked over to the counter.
"Oh, great," she chattered quietly,"He bought me lunch yesterday! You know that means he's interested," she nodded knowingly. "I hope he brings me a Spring Thanksgiving gift this year! I've given him gifts for three years straight... I bet this will be the year!" She squealed much quieter than before.
"I'm sure he will!" I smiled. He better anyway...
"Also, he talked to me a whole hour yesterday! Can you believe it!" She dreamily gazed out the window,"I really think he likes me, Claire."
"I sure he does! Who couldn't!" I chuckled.
"So, you think anyone will give you cookies tomorrow?"
"The festivals tomorrow?!" I cringed, I hated Valentine's Day.
"Uh-huh," she grinned,"So, anyone gonna give you anything??!" she asked again.
"..Probably not." I laughed,"It doesn't really matter anyway! I did just get here, like two weeks ago.."
"Ah," she waved off,"I know someone will give you cookies!"
"I guess we'll see.." I smiled warmly once more,"Well, I better get started on my farm chores.. Good luck with the Doc!" I giggled.
"I most certainly will!" she winked.
"See ya later, Trent!" I called.
"Come again, Claire." He answered. Now, to go get a cooking book...
---Gray---
"So..." Gramps hovered over me,"I heard you and that girl are an..item now."
"No." I stated, setting the silver metal in the fire, and jumping back away from the sparks.
He looked surprised,"That's not what I heard."
"Well," I looked down at him unamused,"you heard wrong."
He hmphed and waddled over to the main counter,"You are interested in her, right?"
I rolled my eyes,"Of course...Who wouldn't be."
"True..." he smiled.
I sighed, agitated,"Why does it matter to you anyway?"
"I just want my grandson to have a good wife someday." He nodded.
"W-what?!" I blushed furiously.
"Well, you need to go after her now. I know some of the other boys are already in the baking game!"
I sighed and pulled the metal out of the pit, it was a burning red, and hammered it several times. It soon flattened, making one heck of a hoe.
I looked over at the old man again and saw a wide grin,"I bought flour, chocolate chips, little heart candies, and eggs..some milk.. and a nice pan for you!"
I groaned, slitted my eyes and grabbed my satchel. "Where are you going?"
"To the library.."
"Ahh.." He groaned unhappily,"Gray...I like Claire better than Mary.. Why-" He pouted as I slammed the door.
Annoying old man.
